Senior Database Administrator

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of hands-on professional Database Administration experience.
• Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
• Strong PostgreSQL and MySQL experience.
• Experience supporting both cloud-managed and self-hosted databases.
• Hands-on experience with AWS database technologies, particularly Amazon RDS.
• Experience administering databases in Microsoft Azure.
• Strong understanding of SQL, database architecture, query execution plans, indexing, query optimization, statistics, locking and blocking, deadlocks, transactions, backup and recovery, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, database security, and capacity planning.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize slow-performing SQL queries.
• Experience working directly with software developers to resolve application and database performance issues.
• Experience with Liquibase or similar database schema migration and version-management technology.
• Experience with database monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog.
• Working knowledge of cloud database security and networking.
• Strong troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) skills.
• Experience creating technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
• Should be ready to work in US shifts (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM U.S. Central Time, Monday through Friday).

Primary Objectives of the Role

The key objectives for this consulting engagement are to:

• Maintain and stabilize database environments.
• Provide strong production DBA and troubleshooting support.
• Improve database performance and work collaboratively with developers on query optimization.
• Strengthen database backup, recovery, HA, and DR processes.
• Improve database monitoring and observability using technologies such as Datadog.
• Modernize database schema deployment through Liquibase and CI/CD automation.
• Document database architecture, operational processes, and support procedures.
• Create repeatable DBA runbooks and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Transfer DBA knowledge and operational responsibilities to HALO’s internal technology team.
• Reduce long-term dependency on external DBA resources through documentation, automation, standardization, and knowledge transfer.
