Senior Backend Engineer

Job Summary:

• We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer (SWE IV) to serve as a senior individual contributor and technical leader on our digital platform, with a primary focus on enterprise backend systems and integrations that power patient and provider experiences across ordering, resulting, consultations, billing, and more. In this role, you will design, build, and operate scalable integration and service platforms while also contributing directly to the evolution of our patient- and provider facing products.
• This position will take ownership of complex features and platform initiatives end to end—from architectural design through production and ongoing iteration—working closely with product managers, engineers, and cross‑functional partners. As part of Myriad’s Digital Products team, you will help ensure our systems are reliable, extensible, and aligned with long‑term platform strategy, delivering software that supports precision medicine and touches tens of thousands of patients and providers every day.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and operate scalable backend services and enterprise integration platforms that support patient- and provider-facing digital experiences.
• Lead the implementation of clean, reliable APIs and integrations (internal and external), using REST, event‑driven messaging, and other modern integration patterns.
• Own complex features and platform initiatives end to end, from technical design and implementation through production deployment and iteration.
• Contribute directly to the evolution of digital products by delivering backend capabilities that enable new functionality, improved performance, and system reliability.
• Review, respond to, and help drive resolution of operational issues, escalating and coordinating as necessary

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and operating backend or platform systems in production.
• Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, with a BS, MS, PhD in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience designing and operating large‑scale, distributed, cloud‑native systems.
• Hands‑on experience building backend services using Python (Django). Willingness to work across stacks.
• Experience developing and maintaining API‑driven systems, including RESTful services and asynchronous or event‑based integration patterns.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts and experience deploying and operating services in public cloud environments (e.g., AWS).
• Ability to take ownership of complex technical initiatives, including system design, implementation, production rollout, and iteration.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work effectively in ambiguous, cross‑team environments.
• Experience collaborating closely with product managers and cross‑functional partners to deliver business‑critical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or operating enterprise integration platforms, shared services, or middleware systems.
• Hands‑on experience with iPaaS solutions such as Workato, MuleSoft, or similar integration technologies.
• Experience integrating or supporting Master Data Management (MDM) platforms (e.g., Reltio).
• Familiarity with event‑driven architectures and messaging systems such as Kafka, Kinesis, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience supporting data flows across complex enterprise ecosystems, including CRM, billing, digital applications, or operational systems.
• Experience operating systems in regulated or highly reliable environments such as healthcare, finance, or life sciences.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and production observability.
• Experience with third‑party system integrations, API lifecycle management, or external partner integrations (EMR, EDI, or similar).
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices and technical standards across teams.
