Oracle Database Administrator

Overview

Join a cloud infrastructure organization responsible for delivering enterprise-grade database services and platform capabilities to internal engineering teams. The team operates and enhances large-scale database environments that support critical business applications, while driving modernization, automation, and cloud adoption initiatives.

This role is focused on Oracle database platform engineering, administration, performance optimization, high availability, and cloud migration projects. You will work closely with infrastructure engineers, application teams, and external vendors to maintain reliable, secure, and scalable database services.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert for Oracle database technologies and provide technical leadership across database-related initiatives.
• Administer and support Oracle database environments in production and non-production settings.
• Design, implement, and manage backup, replication, disaster recovery, failover, and switchover processes.
• Manage database security, upgrades, patching activities, and performance optimization efforts.
• Monitor database health, performance, and capacity requirements while recommending improvements.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge-sharing materials.
• Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams through online and remote communication channels.
• Lead and participate in database infrastructure projects from planning through implementation.

Required Experience & Skills

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

• Strong experience migrating Oracle databases from on-premises environments to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
• Proven expertise implementing and managing Oracle Data Guard between on-premises environments and OCI.
• Ability to identify repetitive operational tasks and build automation solutions for activities such as:
• Database patching and upgrades
• Security and encryption deployment
• Routine administration and operational support
• Experience assessing migration requirements and helping engineers transition toward Oracle cloud engineering practices.

Oracle Database & Exadata Administration

• Hands-on experience managing Oracle databases running on Exadata platforms.
• Expert knowledge of Oracle RAC and Data Guard deployment, configuration, optimization, and administration.
• Extensive experience with database installation, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• Ability to perform SQL-level performance tuning and database optimization for mission-critical workloads.
• Experience managing Exadata ESS versions, Oracle Grid Infrastructure, and Oracle Home environments.
• Knowledge of Exadata maintenance activities, including:
• RMAN backup and recovery
• System patching
• Troubleshooting
• ASM storage expansion
• Platform health management

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

• Deep expertise with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC).
• Strong experience implementing and operating Oracle Data Guard solutions.
• Ability to architect and maintain highly available database environments with robust disaster recovery capabilities.

Oracle GoldenGate

• Hands-on project experience using Oracle GoldenGate.
• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting environments involving:
• Oracle databases
• Microsoft SQL Server
• Kafka

Automation & DevOps

• Practical automation experience using:
• Python
• Git
• Jenkins
• Ansible
• Ability to automate operational workflows and improve platform efficiency through scripting and tooling.

Linux Administration

• Strong Linux systems administration capabilities supporting enterprise database platforms.

Problem Solving & Analysis

• Advanced troubleshooting expertise for complex Oracle database issues.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.

Communication & Leadership

• Professional-level English communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with stakeholders, engineering teams, and vendors.
• Experience leading database-related projects and delivering against project objectives.
• Comfortable collaborating with team members across multiple geographic regions and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of Oracle database administration experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience managing network infrastructure or network administration functions.
• Additional experience with Git, Jenkins, and Ansible in enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms such as:
• Grafana
• Kibana
• Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
